Choreography: when you’re fresh out of ideas

It’s no secret that creating a routine can be tough.  You want to showcase your best moves, but if you’re like me you may have a few default moves or combos that you always fall back on because they’re comfortable.  If I don’t make a conscious effort to change it up, the moves I’ve been working on most recently tend to block out all of the other stuff I’ve learned, and my mind goes blank.  When this happens, it helps to have a backup.  Here’s a quick tip I use whenever I get stuck. Competition and jealousy

When I was younger, I took Irish dance lessons with my best friend (let’s call her Erin).  Like in many pole dance studios, students in our dance school were grouped into different levels based on the complexity of the dance steps we knew.  In order to advance to a higher level, we each had to compete for a certain rank in various categories in a competition.  We competed against both those from other dance schools and our own, so Erin and I were constantly in direct competition with one another.
